Beverly Hospital is a small non-profit community hospital serving the communities of Montebello, Pico Rivera, Monterey Park, El Monte, Whittier, and East Los Angeles. The Registered Nurses (RN) are affiliated with the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals (UNAC/UHCP), which is affiliated with NUHHCE, AFSCME, and the AFL-CIO.
The quality of care at Beverly Hospital has been on the decline. Hospital executives have slashed costs by cutting corners and reducing staff. Without enough staff, hospital administrators are demanding mandatory overtime and many RNs are too exhausted to properly do their job.
Hoping to improve patient care - but needing an advocate on their side - in 2011 Beverly Nurses voted to join the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals. UNAC/UHCP, which includes RNs from 23 hospitals throughout So. California, has been a trail blazer for the profession and has a solid track record of improving patient care both through legislation and collective bargaining.
